Getting to the Andamans is easier than you think
Flights, visas, permits and what to pack: everything you need for a fishing trip from Port Blair.
Getting here
Fly into Port Blair (Veer Savarkar International Airport, IXZ). There are daily direct flights from Chennai, Kolkata, Delhi, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. International visitors usually connect through one of these cities, or through Singapore, Dubai, Doha or Bangkok to an Indian gateway.
We meet you in Port Blair. The boat leaves from Port Blair, a short drive from most hotels.
Visas & permits
- Visa: most nationalities can apply online for an Indian e-Visa. Apply well before you travel.
- Restricted Area Permit: recent reports say foreign tourists no longer need a RAP for the Andamans, but you must register on arrival. Check the latest rules before you travel. We’ll confirm with your booking.
- Sport fishing permit: we arrange it for every angler through the Directorate of Fisheries. It’s included in your quote.
Travelling with tackle
- Use a hard rod tube, and check your airline’s rules for oversized baggage.
- Domestic flights to Port Blair often have lower baggage limits, so pre-book extra weight.
- Pack reels, braid and lures in your carry-on in case checked bags are delayed.
- Prefer to travel light? Rent our tackle.
Where to stay
Port Blair has hotels for every budget, close to the jetty. Non-fishing partners can add rest days at Havelock (Swaraj Dweep) or Neil Island (Shaheed Dweep), which have some of Asia’s best beaches. Ask us for recommendations.
FAQ
When is the best time to come?
The season runs from September to May. January to April is peak time for GT popping and jigging, and February to April is best for marlin. From June to August there is no sport fishing, because it is the closed season and the monsoon.
Do I need a fishing licence?
Yes. Every angler needs a sport fishing permit from the Directorate of Fisheries in Port Blair, issued per day. We apply for it for you. Just send us a copy of your passport (or Indian ID) before the trip.
Is it catch and release?
Yes. All GTs, billfish and reef species are released. We use single hooks, keep fish in the water as much as possible and take photos quickly. Protected species are never targeted.
Can beginners join?
Absolutely. Our light-tackle and trolling trips are perfect for first-timers and families. For popping, the crew will teach you how to cast and work the lure.
Should I bring my own tackle?
Experienced anglers usually bring their own popping and jigging outfits. If you prefer to travel light, we have quality rental tackle. Ask for it in your quote.
What happens in bad weather?
Safety comes first. If the sea is unsafe, we move fishing days within your stay where possible. Check our weather policy when you book.
How many anglers per boat?
Each trip lists its maximum, usually 4 anglers for popping so everyone has room to cast. Larger groups fish on several boats.
What should I bring?
Sun protection (hat, buff, sunglasses, reef-safe sunscreen), light long-sleeve clothing, gloves for popping, a rain jacket, any personal medication and your passport for the permit.
